Gordon Daily

President, Co-Founder

Gordon has always been a big dreamer and big thinker.

Although he failed to achieve his childhood goal of starting in center field for the Cleveland Indians, Gordon has never lost his capacity for dreaming big and working tirelessly to achieve whatever he sets his mind to.

His really big dream:  To create a  technology company that changes the way people communicate –  through live HD video streaming.

After receiving his BS and MS in computer engineering from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland in three-and-half years, a 12-year-career at Rockwell Automation followed.  It literally took him around the world, including a stint in Singapore.  It also gave him the opportunity to manage mission-critical projects early in his career.  In Gordon’s Rockwell years, he tackled tough technical problems, crafted international business deals and came up with creative marketing solutions. He also managed to be awarded a half-dozen patents.

Gordon lives with his wife Cara and their young children Quentin and Serena in a renovated convent on Cleveland's West Side.  When he isn’t with his family or working, he’s most often demonstrating his competitive side whether it's skiing, kayaking or playing ping pong.

Toby Maloney

VP, Marketing / Public Relations

Toby is a lifelong media junkie, entrepreneur and investor who loves building brands.

He launched his first business (a family shoeshine service) at age 6 and was buying  stock in junior high with his paper-route money.

Since becoming an angel  investor for BoxCast, Toby has been working to help develop PR /marketing  and  business strategies.  His goal is to ensure that everyone in America is aware of BoxCast.

Prior to joining BoxCast, he was a senior communications executive at SmithKline Beecham (now GlaxoSmithKline) in Philadelphia and London and at KeyCorp in Cleveland. He and his wife were angel investors and senior executives for mental_floss, a media company that they sold  in 2011 to the British media mogul Felix Dennis.

Toby graduated from John Carroll University and has advanced degrees from  Case Western Reserve University and Miami University (Ohio).  He is active in the entrepreneurial community in Cleveland and is on the Blackstone LaunchPad board.

An avid bike rider, reader and Airedale lover, Toby spends much of his free time indulging those passions.

Sam Brenner

Director of Marketing

Although Sam is not a fan of green eggs, he does love business. More specifically, he loves to help businesses grow and reach their full potential. Sam joined the BoxCast team in early September 2015 to do just that—build a scalable marketing and sales program that takes BoxCast to the next level.

His journey to BoxCast is a unique one. Sam started his career in 2009 as a salesperson for a regional technology solutions company. After more than two years in sales, he put his business dreams on hold to pursue a full-time career in music. Thousands of miles, hundreds of shows, dozens of broken guitar strings and two albums later, Sam decided it was time to bring his talents back to the boardroom. He joined a Cleveland-based digital marketing agency in 2013, where he served as a consultant and business development manager. Sam has learned a lot at every twist and turn in the road. He's thrilled to have landed at BoxCast.

Sam is a native of Buffalo, NY and a graduate of John Carroll University. When he's not hustling at the BoxCast Hangar, Sam enjoys spending time with his fiancee Alex, cheering on the Cavs, playing guitar and sharpening his ping pong skills so that one day he defeats Gordon.

Lena Kelly

Digital Storyteller

Lena joins the BoxCast family as a Fellow for Venture for America, an organization that recruits top college graduates to work for the most promising startups in the country. She is thrilled to work with this winning team and build upon the skills she gained during her summer stints at Google, Epson, and Lena graduated from Washington University in St. Louis where she pursued a double major in International Studies and Spanish.

Originally from Los Angeles, California, Lena spent six months of her college career living in Chile and knows firsthand the potential challenges caused by geographic separation. She is thrilled to help BoxCast enable people to share important moments with those around the world who couldn’t otherwise be there.

When she can, Lena loves to backpack, play basketball, and go on spontaneous adventures with friends.

Leo  Maloney

VP, Security / Office Dog

We’re sad to say that we lost this integral team member in January of 2016. Leo’s attention to detail and spark for life is something that continues to motivate us every day.

Leo was a veteran entrepreneur and start-up dog.  He previously worked in retail at the mental_floss store in Cleveland.  A good listener, who rarely was too vocal other than with the UPS delivery man, he felt BoxCast is a smarter way to stream.

Mike Donlin

VP, Sports Development

Mike has been putting lots of points on the scoreboard since he joined BoxCast in 2013 as vice president, sports development.

Since learning to read via NY Yankees newspaper box scores, finding better ways to follow teams has always been a passion.

Mike brings 15 years of experience in sports, most recently in business development at PrestoSports, where he helped the company grow from just over 40 website clients  to over 550.

He started his professional career as the assistant director of athletic communications at his alma mater, Colgate University. Mike was also the sports information director at Le Moyne College in Syracuse, NY where he added a master’s degree in education.

Mike resides in Cazenovia, N.Y. with his wife Nicki (a member of the Ithaca College Athletics Hall of Fame) and their sons, Jack and Will.

When he isn’t busy selling BoxCast, Mike can be found coaching his boys in youth sports or reliving his glory days on the local diamonds or hardwood.

Brett Bzdafka

Church Development Manager

With formal training in history and theology, Brett began his professional career serving as both a Christian pastor and a college professor in the greater Cleveland area.

In 2013, Brett returned to Cleveland from Nashville for the chance to join BoxCast to use his skills and expertise to help partner with churches in their efforts to use media to better reach their congregations and communities.

Brett views live video streaming as an essential tool in any organization's arsenal to help them spread their message in a way that is meaningful to the people they want to engage.

A graduate of The Moody Bible Institute in Chicago with a BA in pastoral studies, Brett also received a master's of divinity degree from Columbia International University in Columbia, South Carolina.

Outside of the office, Brett can often be found spending time with his young son, Thaddeus, volunteering at his church, or cheering on the Cleveland Browns.

Kyle Nickel

Church Account Executive

Kyle is a Cleveland boy, born and raised. Even as a young child, Kyle had a passion for ministry. He grew up in organizations like Young Life, participating in mission trips that took him to nine countries. In college, Kyle pursued these interests further and held various leadership positions within Campus Crusade. He's excited to join BoxCast and extend the organization's efforts in the church space.

Kyle joins the team as an experienced salesman, having previously worked for a national logistics company. He brings high energy and a strong willingness to succeed to the table.

When he's not finding new company leads, Kyle will likely be playing the drums, hanging out with friends and exploring the great outdoors.

Larry James

After a brief stint at Cleveland State University, this now-grandfather-of-3 decided to follow his entrepreneurial dream.
Larry founded several successful small-to-medium-sized business, including a lead-generation company and a Janitorial service that contracted to the Cleveland Indians, PNC Bank, Greyhound, and more.
After accepting the call into ministry, Larry was ordained as a pastor and apostle, helping to plant churches in the US, India, and Pakistan.
As a side-project, Larry started KAZ Radio TV Network to host interviews and stream Indie-Christian music. Like most things Larry's involved with, this hobby grew into a business, and he now broadcasts to churches and ministries around the world.
Larry's extensive background in broadcasting, paired with his deep relationships with pastors and ministers, make him a wonderful fit for the BoxCast family. He's excited to jump right in.

Josh Mathus

Support Analyst

If Josh ever tires of being a support analyst, he would be a natural for the diplomatic corps.  He is known throughout the company for his calm demeanor and uncanny ability to solve customer problems with a smile in his voice.

A 6-year veteran of supporting church and athletic streams, Josh has a BA in marketing from Kent State University and is the company’s unofficial fashion-plate with his ever expanding collection of new shirts.

The rest of the team loves how Josh makes problems go away.  It’s really hard to make Josh lose his cool or get mad - whether it’s a particularly challenging customer problem or a loss in a fiercely competitive ping pong tournament.

He enjoys bowling on Tuesday nights - the only night he really has off because he is always available on support!

Josh Clemence

Support Analyst

Josh loves to run. The mental endurance he built while running varsity cross country and track at the University of Mount Union has prepared him excellently for his role as Support Analyst, where he is ready to tackle any challenges that come his way.

During his time in college, Josh found his true love for media and entrepreneurship. Pairing these passions with his degrees in Marketing and Entrepreneurship enabled him to co-found his own video production and design company.

Josh's enthusiasm for sports and media have made BoxCast the perfect home after graduation. A native of Akron, Ohio, Josh is excited to burst into the Downtown Cleveland tech scene. In his free time, Josh will likely be trail running, playing basketball, making videos or doing anything else creative.

Rapheal Ollison

Some would call Ralph an adrenaline junkie. Mention anything that gets his heart racing and he's there, whether it be skydiving, zip lining, or an intense game of paintball. He gets that same thrill from heeding ambiguous customer service requests. He's quick to identify a solution to an unknown problem and think of creative ways to solve it.
Ralph continues to learn in every way he can, currently working toward his BA in computer networking at Devry University. In his spare time (unsure of how he has spare time...), Ralph volunteers for the Shaker Nature Center and experiments in his kitchen. His pride and joy? He makes a mean chicken parm.

Melanie Maloney

VP, Operations

Melanie, the queen of process improvement, is happiest when she’s figuring out a way to do things faster, smarter, and cheaper.

The daughter of a contractor, she grew up on building sites and soon transferred her building skills to the corporate world. She brings a unique combination of corporate and entrepreneurial experience to BoxCast.

In 20+ years of corporate life, primarily as head of organization development for SmithKline Beecham (now Glaxo SmithKline) and for Eaton Corporation, she focused on aligning the people, processes and organization structures needed for effective businesses.

She then transferred those skills to mental_floss, a diversified media company.  As an angel investor and vp, operations, she built the infrastructure  - supply chain, customer relations, admin – required to grow the company into a multi-million dollar enterprise.

Since the sale of mental_floss in 2011 to a British publisher, Melanie, along with her husband, Toby, has been actively supporting northeast Ohio entrepreneurs and serves on the Blackstone LaunchPad board.

Melanie is a graduate of SUNY Oswego and has a master’s from Fairleigh Dickinson.

Peter Spaulding

Director of Operations

Peter completed his degree in political science from Yale University and joined BoxCast in 2013. As a student, Peter spent one summer helping to develop the non-profit branch of a Washington, D.C. start-up, and another working on Capitol Hill for Congressman Steny Hoyer.

After graduation, Peter became a fellow for Venture for America, a program that places recent graduates at promising start-ups to help build those organizations. A thorough believer in BoxCast as a game-changing enabler for audiences around the world, Peter enjoys doing anything he can to help facilitate smooth operations around the office, including winning the occasional ping pong game.

A Maryland native, he now calls Cleveland home and the Indians, Browns, and Cavs his hometown teams. Some of Peter’s other interests include hiking, fishing and cooking. A lover of all sports, Peter has played lacrosse since he was 9-years-old and was a member of Yale’s varsity lacrosse team.

Emily Bzdafka

Office Manager

Emily has the thankless task of keeping Gordon focused and the day-to-day operations running smoothly.  She joined the company in 2013 and brings 5 years of office administration experience.

Emily has a BA in vocal music from Grove City College.  Her passion for music and the arts has led her to perform various genres of music from classical to jazz at venues across the country and the world.  She lives in Lakewood, directs her local church choir and can be found singing in the Cleveland Orchestra Chorus.

Melanie Reda

Operations Extraordinaire

Though the job has developed immensely, Melanie first started working with BoxCast in 2013 as their Shipping Servicer. Any package, any size, any order, any time – Melanie was ready to get the job done.
Of course, that can be said for all aspects of her life. Melanie has made a career of service. After graduating from Ohio Northern University, she began a career at Cleveland's Department of Veteran Affairs. But it wasn't long before international service called to Melanie and she left for a two-year term with Peace Corps Guatemala. She returned with a greater need to provide businesses and individuals with her skills, which she eventually developed into her own company, Delegate.
While she still maintains Delegate, Melanie can also be found devoting her Mondays and Wednesdays to BoxCast assembly, customer service, and shipping.
Melanie lives in Shaker Heights with her cousin, Jessica, but can more readily be found touring the suburbs of Cleveland as a pet and house sitter.

In his free time, Justin enjoys making music, playing with his little girls, Naomi and Phoebe, and taking long walks with his wife, Zoe and Jack Russell terrier, Chloe.

Ron Hopper

Chief Scientist, Co-Founder

Ron is a computer scientist and engineer who loves finding ingenious solutions to complex problems.

Having taught himself computer design and machine language before turning 12, Ron's career has been characterized by an insatiable love of learning and an ability to absorb and synthesize new technologies and concepts extremely quickly.

In addition to his scientific and technological pursuits, Ron is also an avid entrepreneur and small-business consultant who has spent the last decade working closely with companies of all sizes.

Ron began working as an independent IT consultant in 1997 while earning simultaneous degrees from Case Western Reserve University in computer science and engineering and theater acting. He has consulted ever since, working with Fortune 500 companies and a host of small businesses in northeastern Ohio.

In 2008, Ron started itching to grow a product-based company. He saw great potential for a simple online broadcasting system and began putting together the core team to validate the market, develop the product, and launch BoxCast. As Chief Scientist at BoxCast, Ron is dedicated to keeping online broadcasting both simple and low-cost while gaining an ever stronger competitive advantage.

Ron loves spending time with his wife, Fidelle, and their five children - making music and art as a family, reading aloud to each other and learning all that intrigues them.

Mike Griffith

Software Craftsman

Mike spends his days and nights dreaming of clever ways to build amazing user experiences.

It started early - he used to skip 7th grade math class to program in Basic, which quickly progressed to C and Java and then Microsoft Stack before falling in love with Python and JavaScript (he's a true romantic). Now, the technologies that excite him most are the ones that enable him to build and shape the face of products that can empower people and change lives.

After graduating from Case Western Reserve University with a degree in Systems and Controls Engineering, Mike’s journey took him from large corporations doing e-commerce to an online greeting card company to a car wash point-of-sale manufacturer and into the big-data ecosystem for healthcare and defense. It was only then that he found and settled in at BoxCast. Now, Mike's on a mission to make live video streaming accessible, engaging, and enjoyable for everyone.

When he’s not staring at a computer, Mike loves taking his wife and 3 kids into the great outdoors - on long bike rides, rock climbing, or hiking - and documenting it with his Canon.

Camden Fullmer

Camden’s fascination with computers, programming, and the magic that happens when you mix the two started at a young age when used a Snoopy educational game to teach himself multiplication. Today, he can do more than just multiply - he’s always thinking about how to create beautiful and unique apps to help people in their everyday life.

While earning his Bachelor of Science at Kent State University, Camden founded HacKSU, a technology club that teaches students contemporary web and mobile technologies. Though Camden’s proud of his nerdiness, he brings something more to the table. At Kent, he also led players into battle as the captain of the dodgeball team.

Camden’s stoked to combine BoxCast's great live video streaming technology with his love for apps, creating an amazing user interface and experience for all our customers.

Tim Cochrane

All Things Mechanical Guru

Tim can fix just about anything and has been taking stuff apart since he was given his first set of tools.

Prior to partnering with BoxCast, he focused primarily in medical device design with an emphasis on cardiac imaging and renal therapy. Tim launched Dynamic Mechanix, a consulting, prototyping and in-house contracting firm two years ago.

He aims for robust, functional and elegant design. Tim has the ability to combine aesthetically pleasing design that is both efficient to manufacture and assemble. In addition to being an excellent engineer, he can program and run CNC manufacturing machines.

Tim received his degree in aeronautical systems engineering from Kent State and is working on his master's of engineering management at Ohio University.

A licensed pilot and avid water skier, Tim and his wife Shannon have one son, Camden and their dog, Bella. Tim's  also proud of his ability to weld and to build and maintain airplanes.

Jonny Hall

Hardware Engineer

Jonny, who grew up on an organic vegetable farm, has been a tinkerer since he could hold a screwdriver.  His interest in electronics led him to study electrical engineering at Case Western Reserve University, where he earned a BS in 2009.  After a year working at a local ODM, he decided to make his own path, and founded the electronics design contractor Osmisys LLC with two fellow Case alumni.

Since meeting Gordon in 2012, Osmisys has been closely partnered with Boxcast.  Jonny brings his extensive experience in embedded hardware design, and has been responsible for the design of the last two revisions of Boxcast's eponymous streaming box.

When he is not designing the next generation of high-quality video streaming hardware, Jonny works on his 1979 Fiat X1/9 and his 1986 Yugo.
