Pathway Church uses Mixing Station Anywhere to deliver more consistent broadcast audio quality for its micro-campuses and online audience.
Inconsistent Broadcast Audio Across Multiple Campuses
As a growing multi-site church based in Wichita, Kansas, Pathway Church needed a better way to maintain consistent broadcast audio quality across its ministry environments.
Before implementing Mixing Station Anywhere, Tyler Ingram and the production team struggled with maintaining consistent audio quality across content serving Pathway's network of 16 micro-campuses, including environments like retirement centers and correctional facilities. While the church already had a strong in-room audio infrastructure, achieving a polished and repeatable broadcast mix was much more difficult.
The team needed a workflow that would allow them to:
Improve consistency for online viewers
Remotely manage broadcast mixes
Maintain high-quality audio without requiring an audio tech in a dedicated physical broadcast suite
Remote Mixing with a Dedicated Broadcast Workflow
Pathway Church built a flexible remote mixing workflow using a Yamaha CL5 at front-of-house alongside a Behringer X32 dedicated to broadcast audio mixing.
Audio from the CL5 is split via Dante to the X32, allowing the team to create a separate broadcast mix optimized specifically for online viewers and on demand content. Using Mixing Station Anywhere, Tyler and his team are able to remotely control the X32 mix from anywhere while monitoring the stream in real time.
To power the remote workflow, Pathway uses the Mixing Station Anywhere Agent running on a Mac Mini, which feeds audio and video previews directly into the platform and provides ultra-low latency remote control of the X32 for mixing.
According to Tyler, the ability to remotely access and manage the mix has been a major advantage for maintaining consistent audio quality across services and recordings.
Originally, the remote workflow was intended as a backup plan for situations where an in-person broadcast mixer was unavailable and a staff member needed to mix from home on Saturdays. Over time, however, the team found the workflow so intuitive and reliable that it naturally became their primary approach to broadcast mixing.
“We’ve seen much better consistency in the quality of our on demand feeds and recordings,” Tyler shared. “Having a reliable process in place has helped us create a more repeatable experience regardless of who is involved in the mix.”
More Consistent Broadcast Audio for Online Viewers
Since implementing Mixing Station Anywhere, Pathway Church has significantly improved the consistency and overall quality of its live stream and on demand audio experience.
One of the biggest improvements has been creating a more reliable and consistent listening experience across Pathway's distributed ministry environments. The team produces content centrally and delivers it across its network of micro-campuses, helping ensure attendees receive a seamless experience regardless of location.
By remotely managing the centralized broadcast mix workflow during live services and sending it straight to recording, the team is able to quickly send out live service content to the locations that need it, without having to spend time on post-production or require staff to spend hours on-site to produce it.
The overall workflow has proven to be dependable and highly effective, despite some occasional internet connectivity challenges that Tyler noted.
“Good interface that allows you to mix from wherever and have a consistent product.”
The flexibility of remote mixing has also helped Pathway create a more repeatable process for staff and volunteers, reducing dependence on any single person while helping maintain consistency from service to service.
Consistent Remote Mixing for a Growing Multi-Site Church
Pathway Church uses Mixing Station Anywhere to remotely manage broadcast audio for content delivered across its campuses and digital ministry environments, helping ensure a high-quality and consistent listening experience.
By combining a dedicated X32 broadcast console, Dante audio networking, and the Mixing Station Anywhere Agent, the team has created a workflow that allows them to mix from anywhere while maintaining precise control over audio quality.
Started as a Backup, Became the Primary Workflow
What began as a backup plan for Pathway Church has evolved into the team’s primary broadcast mixing workflow. By providing a dependable and flexible way to manage audio remotely, Mixing Station Anywhere helps the team maintain consistent results while creating a repeatable process for the staff and volunteers involved in production. With confidence in the workflow, the team can focus on delivering a polished and consistent listening experience across every service and ministry environment.
